I would like to take the opportunity to compliment the Government for establishing the new Laventille Swimming Pool at Sogren Trace, Laventille. The swimming pool features six lanes, 25 metres long, 14.6 metres wide, a minimum depth of 1.2 metres and a maximum depth of 2.2 metres. The youth of the community can now experience top class training which can prepare them to compete on the world stage.
I know for a fact that Laventille and environs are blessed with tremendous sporting talents in the youths. We owe it to them to provide the necessary sporting facilities to bring out the best in them. I believe that the type of training, discipline and management that the Coast Guard will bring, will help the athletes and community as a whole. The athletes will be trained to be the best they can be and the community will be given the necessary training and skills to manage an efficient sporting facility.
As an organiser of sporting events in the east, one must appreciate the need for proper management and organisation of sporting events and competitions.
The athletes must be treated with dignity and respect, the fans must enjoy the events, the sponsors must get bang for their buck and the prize monies must be paid on time.
This facility and its management will enable the youths of Laventille and environs to be occupied with well-organised training programmes, events and competitions, so much so that they will have every time to shine and time to make their community and nation proud.
