The Pre­sen­ta­tion Col­lege spin com­bi­na­tion of Bri­an Charles and Justin Joseph helped Cen­tral rout South West for 93 off 44.4 overs, be­fore Camil Pooran sealed a nine wick­et win on the open­ing day of the 2010 BG T&T U-15 In­ter Zon­al 50 overs tour­na­ment. Play­ing at the Na­tion­al Crick­et Cen­tre, Bal­main, Cou­va, South West was sent in­to bat and the plan worked well for Cen­tral. The vis­it­ing team was up against it ear­ly, as the bats­men found it hard to get the ball off the square.

The team was aid­ed by a num­ber of wides in the first four overs, how­ev­er, with the in­tro­duc­tion of spin in the fifth, it got tougher. The spin pair of Charles and Joseph ac­count­ed for eight wick­ets as the South West bats­men failed to come to grips with the bowl­ing, with ex­tras top­scor­ing with 36, in­clud­ing 26 wides, 4 leg-byes, 4 byes and 3 no balls.

On­ly Ste­fan Seep­er­saud (13), Den­zil Ram­per­saud (13) and Key­ron Ram­lal (10) got to dou­ble fig­ures. Charles fin­ished with fig­ures of 5 for 11 from 8.4 overs, which in­clud­ed 5 maid­ens, while Joseph took 3 for 10 from ten overs in­clud­ing 6 maid­ens. In re­ply Cen­tral reached 94 for one off 20 overs with the Diminu­tive right-hand­ed Pooran stroking an un­beat­en 44 which in­clud­ed 5 fours. Cen­tral will take on To­ba­go in the on­ly match to­day at the same venue.
