Players of both the Guyana and T&T cricket teams have been praised by their captains for responding positively to calls to contribute to the fund-raising match for the earthquake-stricken victims in Haiti. The match will be played at Queen's Park Oval tomorrow. The teams completed their regional four-day match late last night but will travel to T&T today to participate in a T20 charity match to help the people of Haiti.

T&T captain, Daren Ganga, said his team-mates were saddened and overwhelmed by the enormity of the disaster that has befallen the people of Haiti from the awesome earthquake. "They needed no persuasion to play for their suffering and unfortunate Caricom brothers and sisters," Ganga said. Guyana's captain, Sewnarine Chattergoon, said his players acknowledged unhesitatingly how critical it was to show solidarity and support for their fellow Caribbean families in their moment of need and desperation.

"I want to compliment the organisers for the alacrity with which the game has been organised and looking forward to a keenly contested game against our old rivals," Chattergoon said. Caricom's Secretary-general Dr Edwin Carrington and his assistant Dr Edward Greene have been invited to match. An invitation has also been issued to the President of the Guyana Cricket Board, Chetram Singh. President and CEO of WIPA, Dinanath Ramnarine said the response has been overwhelming. "It just goes to show how much we as a people care and are affected by this catastrophe in Haiti. "We expect the game to be sold out," he said.
