Veteran sports administrator Tony Harford was re-elected to serve another two-year term as chairman of the Clico Preysal Cricket Club during its Annual General Meeting on Sunday. This is his fifth consecutive term without opposition. Club co-founder, Manzur Baksh is vice chair while Camal Basdeo and Bede Ottley will return as secretary and treasurer respectively. The other members of the management will be Rangy Nanan, Kishiree Ramdeen and Rishi Dookran.
Preysal, now celebrating its 60th anniversary, has been sponsored by Clico for the past 13 years, although sponsorship has been reduced to just 25 per cent of the club's annual $1 million budget since the meltdown at the company. The club's audited accounts show a deficit in the last financial year of $81,000. The club reaffirmed it's commitment to Clico and will carry the brand next season. However, the chairman revealed plans to attract a team of category sponsors to the club to fill the breach.
The club has also renovated its relationship with the local corporation, with a view to having the Inshan Ali Park designated a cricket facility while the nearby Preysal Recreation Ground will be used for both windball cricket and recreational football. Other improvement works are being undertaken before the start of the 2011 season.
