In front of one of the largest crowds in the history of the Milo Games, inaugural winners from 1987, Diamond Vale Government School, showed their new principal Lorraine Foster-Henry that they have continued the legacy of the school’s first principal Yvonne Pinder.
The perennial West “B” champion was awesome once again on Tuesday when the 34th edition of the Games was staged at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Mucurapo, Port-of-Spain, with some 5,000 cheering fans.
Diamond Vale showed it continues to excel, sweeping both the boys’ and girls’ categories through stellar performances from Zakya Gill, Kalia Benjamin, Israel Wickham, Mujahid Joseph, Tae-Han Joseph and Jahmir Christian. However, they did not start as they did in the March Past, but this year was different as Patna River Estate Government out-marched them comprehensively for a remarkable win.
In West A, Maraval Roman Catholic School gave Sports Teacher Karen Forde-Felicien something to smile about when they won the judges’ nod. This is her final year at Maraval RC.
Former champions, Carenage Girls Government swept the West “A” Zone girl’s title with great performances from Aria Jules, Safirah Scott, Destiny Noel and Salimah Lawerence while in the process halting the impressive run of former champion Maraval RC.
Carenage Girls were aided by the performances of the victrix ludorum winners.
Salimah Lawrence was unbeaten, proving to be a class act, winning the 100, 200 and 400 metres, respectively, with the minimum of fuss.
The 15-time champion Carenage regained the winning thread in 2024 to move to 16 wins.
The “Giant Killers” Dunross Preparatory School, which was the champion of the West Zone and Port-of-Spain and Environs in football, could not add another laurel to their bulging bags of successes. However, they were all proud of Jake Correia who was impressive in winning the Victor Ludorum for the school.
Diamond Vale, which defended its boys’ title, has previously won the Championship every year since the Games began. Its girls’ team, meanwhile, has never lost a Championship since its inception. The outstanding performers in West A included Maraval RC’s Jo-anno Alleyne, and Kaseem Duverney, who were victrix and victor ludorum in the boys’ Under-9 and U-11, respectively.
There were superb performances from Dunross’ star Corriea who was unbeatable in all three events.
There were also noteworthy performances from U-9 girl athlete of Crystal Stream Government’s Amirah Greene who raced unbeaten in the 60m and 80m events. Kelcy Roach was the stand-out performer of Crystal Stream winning all three races for the U-9 girls. Diego Martin Government’s Keanna Cumming was at her best winning the 100m and 200m before finishing second to Britney Morgan of Crystal Stream Government.
Milo’s Consumer Marketing Manager Nekesha Bartholomew-Ramey lauded the West Zone management for a wonderful sports day. Thanks and praises were showered on the coordinators Maria Simon and Camilus Ollivierre.
They both thanked Milo for their involvement and applauded them for the assistance given to sport and education. They commended the pioneers of the Milo Games and said that the gala opening ceremony and march past were things worth savouring.
