T&T medium pacer Djenaba Joseph collects the player of the match award from umpire Carlton Best for her match winning bowling figures of 5 for 6 to help T&T defeat Jamaica by eight wickets in their CWI/TTWCA U-19 Women’s T20 match at Preysal Recreation Grounds, Couva, yesterday.

Djenaba Joseph returned bowling figures of five wickets for six runs from four overs as T&T bowled out Jamaica for 30 runs inside 12 overs to secure an eight-wicket win on day two of the Cricket West Indies (CWI) T&T Women's Cricket Association (TTWCA) Under-19 Women’s Twenty20 Tournament at Preysal Recreation Grounds, Couva, yesterday.

The 15-year-old medium pacer was not the only source of worry for Jamaica’s batting line-up after they won the toss and chose to bat. Sixteen-year-old off-spinner April Ramoutar also came good, claiming four wickets for six runs from her allotment of overs. No Jamaican batswoman crossed double figures with a high score of nine coming from Kate Wilmott while T&T sent down eight extras.

T&T wiped off that target in just under four overs but lost two wickets along the way as Shania Abdool was dismissed for nine and Shunelle Sawh was trapped leg-before-wicket (lbw) on five. T&T still completed a successful run chase, reaching 33 for the loss of two with Joseph being named the player of the match.

Earlier in the day at the National Cricket Centre in Balmain, T&T defeated Canada by 37 runs.

After being inserted to bat, T&T piled up 138 for 5 from its 20 overs. Abdool top-scored with 42 runs from 36 deliveries including six fours. T&T’s next best score was Sawh’s 34 which came from 27 balls while Alysha Gomez made 29 from 37. Kamna Mirchandani claimed two for 28 for the Canadians.

In reply, the North Americans struggled to reach 101 for 7 with only their captain Mahwish Khan able to build a score of note, hitting 29. Joseph, Daylia Alexander and Shalini Samaroo each took one wicket bowling for T&T.
