T&T’s Jordan Dookie was booted from the girls' singles main draw of the International Tennis Federation J60 Under-18 Tournament at the quarterfinal stage by USA’s Sophia Budacsek in straight sets on an affected day at the National Racquet Centre in Tacarigua, Wednesday.
With a spot in the last four at stake, Dookie who won two titles last month in the Sunshine Snacks Tranquillity Open went under to Budacsek 3-6, 1-6 while T&T’s other entrant among the girls Kiera Youssef was beaten by top-ranked Kayla Brianne Moore of the USA 0-6, 0-6 in their round-of-16 meeting on Wednesday night.
In the boys' Under-18 quarterfinal matches to be completed before press time, Turkey’s Samim Filiz stunned number one ranked Lev Seidman of the USA 6-3, 6-3 while second-ranked Malik Trail of the USA swept past Aruban Hugo Fidler, 6-2, 6-3 and another American Jerrid Gaines beat Brazilian Max Kirmayr, 6-0, 6-2 while Ross Johnson and Navneet Raghuram were due to clash in the remaining match. The tournament continues weather permitting from 9 am on Thursday with singles and doubles matches.
