Defending two time champs, San Juan Jabloteh maintained a four point lead at the top of the Digicel Pro League Standings, after registering their sixth win as play in the tournament continued with match day eight action on Friday and yesterday.
Jabloteh increased their lead to seven with a 3-0 win over Police, in the first game of a double header at the Marvin Lee Stadium on Friday, however, Caledonia AIA who are second in teh standings, pulled back the lead to four as they defeated South End FC on Saturday.
The San Juan based team scored all three items within the first twelve minutes of the encounter. Noel Williams opened the scoring in the 7th minute, before Sheldon Bateau made it 2-0 two minutes later.
Jason Marcano who had a part to play in the first two goals, got his reward, as he found the net in the 11th minute to give the San Juan kings their sixth win in eight games. In the second game of the double header, W Connection shattered the Defence Force hopes of avenging their 3-0 defeat in the Lucozade final last Friday at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium.
While it was a welcomed win for Connection, it was not as easy as in the Lucozade final, and they had to wait until injury time to get the winner from striker Jonathon Frias, after the scoreline was tied at 1-1. After a goalless first half, Andrei Pacheco put Connection ahead, netting in the 70th minute. The Army, however, found the equalizer in the 89th minute, from substitute Richard Roy, before Frias gave Connection the win.
Meanwhile Caledonia claimed their fifth win, with a 2-0 defeat of South End, at the Ato Boldon Stadium. Kerry Daniel netted the first in the 25th minute, before the informed Keyon Edwards scored his tenth goal of the season in the 75th minute, to join Joe Public's Kerry Baptiste as the leading goal scorer.
