?National Women's Under 17 football team head coach, Even Pellerud, says that the returning foreign-based players have strengthened his training squad. The local girls team is currently campaigning in the National Women's League and is also preparing for next year's Fifa Under 17 Women's Championship which will be hosted in T&T next year.
Two of the players joining the squad include members of the previous T&T U-17 team Sydney Hoareau and Saundra Baron. And among the others are Leanna Hinds, who is the cousin of senior team goalkeeper Lisa Jo Ramkissoon and Atlanta-based duo Jasmine Sampson and Breanna Ryce. Mallory Archer who is attached to the Waterloo Minor Soccer club in Toronto, Brianna Ryce of Georgia's Concorde Fire South as well as New York based player Annette Mims of Missapequa Storm and Maryland's Jasmine Sampson are also training under Pellerud.
With The National U-17 Women's team topping the first round of the Premier Division of the 2009 Women's Football League, Pellerud commented,
"The League plays an important part in team's training and development. I would say the season thus far from January to May has been very important. "I know the girls have developed significantly; They have played against players who are more experienced and the girls have managed to out play them in most cases."
"I know the girls will continue to do well in the League, it is important for their development and the exposure is always welcomed." On the introduction on the overseas-based players, the former Canadian head coach added, "There are a number of them here presently who have returned from foreign based teams. We have been pleased with what we have seen so far and the presence of these girls will improve the overall quality of play. The higher competition level will push the players to another level."
In related news, a team of TTFF personnel returned from Zurich last month following a two-day workshop in relation to the hosting of the Fifa U-!7 Women's World Championship next year. Several matters were discussed including the marketing and ticketing plan and the launch of the tournament mascot among other things.
