St Louis: 2009 was a good year for me
Dexter St Louis ...Reliability Maintenance
Services Ltd Table Tennis Champion.
Reigning Caribbean table tennis champion, Dexter St Louis said it was a good year for him in the sport. The French-based T&T national player, who won the Reliability Maintenance Services Ltd Super Singles Table Tennis Championship on Saturday, said he came home to help with the development of the game. “I came home for this tournament since a number of people keep telling me that I am never at any of the local tournaments,” noted St Louis. The four-time Caribbean champion said he will remain in the country for another week to help the national association to set up plans for the new year.
He believes 2010 will be a big year for the sport and T&T has to prepare well. “There’s the 21st Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, and then there is the Commonwealth Games in Dehli, India. “We have to set our sights on doing well at the CAC, since it will give us an indication where we are at in respect to where we need to be,” he said. He feels that T&T has the talent to do well at the tournament, however, he thinks that preparation will be the key to any success there.
St Louis said if T&T does not do well at the CAC then it will not make much sense going to Dehli, since it might be out of the team’s league. The CAC two-time silver medalist said on a personal level, he is looking to better his performance. “I do not want to say I am going after a medal. I claimed my second silver the last time round and my focus next year will be on winning my first gold medal,” said St Louis.
