Edwards, the Digicel Pro League's 2009 second top scorer with 16 goals was replaced by Armstrong midway through the second-half, but it failed to bring about the desired result. Included in the Pele squad was former bmobile Joe Public striker Gregory Richardson and current Caledonia captain Charles Pollard.

Earlier in the quarterfinal round, discarded T&T striker Kevon Carter scored for the second straight match for Guyana Defence Force in a 2-1 loss to Pele. Carter, one of four players from the T&T Defence Force who were on-loan to the GDF fired his team into the lead in the 14th minute easily beating goalkeeper Shemroy Arthur to follow up his strike in a 3-1 win over West Demerara's Seawall FC in the round-of-16. The match swung in Pele's favour when GDF's Kion Adams and David Alleyne were shown red cards in the 63rd and 66th minutes respectively to reduce their team to nine men.
