National player Wayne Legerton netted a hat-trick, all from penalty corners for Petrotrin in its 5-3 win over Notre Dame in the T&T Hockey Board's Men's Championship Division on Sunday at the National Hockey Centre, Tacarigua.
Dames took an early lead through Isaac Marecheau two minutes into the match. However, pint-sized Shaquille Joseph levelled the scores at 1-1 with a strike in the 16th minute. Legerton then got into the action netting the first of his three penalty corners, high into the net in the 22nd to put his team up 2-1.
He added his second in the 34th to make it 3-1, before teammate Triston Grant made it 4-1 three minutes later. Dames got its second item in the 50th minute from Dillon Mason cut the lead to 4-2. Legerton then finished off his tally with his third in the 59th to make it 5-2, before Brian Garcia scored Notre Dame's third in the final minute from the penalty spot.
The two teams met earlier in the Trinity Men's Division, with Notre Dame coming from a 4-1 deficit to beat Petrotrin 6-5.
