Forward Scott Sealy has returned to MLS club San Jose Earthquakes two years after he first joined them.
The 28-year old striker is expected to be officially unveiled by the Quakes this week and returns to MLS after two years in Israel with Maccabi Tel Aviv and Bnei Sakhnin FC. Sealy's addition to the Quakes is a major boost according to general manager John Doyle. "Scott would add a lot of depth to our team," Doyle said. "He's a proven goal scorer." Sealy started his professional career with Kansas City Wizards in 2005 before moving to San Jose in 2008. When he left for Israel, the club retained his MLS rights and has been able to pick him up as a free agent.
Hyland's team chase top five spot
Midfielder Khaleem Hyland has been a regular in the Zulte Waregem first team in the Belgium Jupiler First Division in recent times. The former T&T U-20 player started in the team's 2-1 loss to Gent on Monday before being substituted in the 89th minute. In his team's 2-1 loss to St Truiden, Hyland played the full 90 minutes but was cautioned in the 37th. Zulte are sixth on the table after 28 matches with 41 points. Anderlecht currently top the table on 69 pts with Club Brugge second on 57. In related news, striker Jason Scotland was a relieved man after netting his first Premiership goal in Wigan Athletic's 2-1 loss to Fulham on Monday. "It was beginning to become a psychological thing but you just have to forget about it really,"
Scotland told the Wigan Evening Post. "You just have to take every game at a time, take every chance as it comes and just try to enjoy your football. It comes, it comes. If it doesn't, it doesn't. You still have to keep plugging away." And Crystal Palace moved out of the relegation zone in the English Championship, courtesy solid contributions from Stern John. He netted in their 3-1 win over Watford last week and also played the full 90 in Palace's 3-1 win over Preston North End on Monday to move to 20th spot, one point off the relegation zone. And Carlos Edwards added an 81st minute goal to help Ipswich Town get past Derby County 3-1 on Monday and into a comfortable 13th spot on the Championship table.
Baptiste gets invited to Ipswich preseason
Joe Public striker Kerry Baptiste has been invited to rejoin English club Ipswich Town for their preseason campaign in June/July ahead of the 2010/2011 English Championship season.
Baptiste spent six days at the club last month, heading to the training pitch in blistering cold conditions as soon as he stepped off the plane. "I headed straight to the training pitch because the officials said the gaffer wanted to see me right away. I didn't play any games but I was involved with Roy Keane doing the sessions from day one," Baptiste said. "He (Keane) spoke to me and said they would like to have me back so it's just a matter of waiting and seeing what's next. "He was very professional and serious but there was nothing awkward about working under him. "He even asked about Dwight (Yorke) and what he's been up to. I went to a couple of their matches and some of the big boys at the club spoke to me and they called me the 52-goal man from Trinidad. "They said I should be out there for them because they've been struggling for goals this season. "Who knows, maybe my chance will come as the club has sent a letter inviting me to return inpreseason," Baptiste added.
Townsend says Villa needs Yorke magic
As Aston Villa continue to vie for a place in European competition next season, former star Andy Townsend says the Birmingham club needs someone with a touch of magic like Dwight Yorke delivered during his time at the club Villa maintained their hopes of advancing to the Champions League with a 1-1 draw with Bolton Wanderers on the weekend and while they have played good football, Townsend believes they need a killer finisher like Yorke. "I was lucky enough to play with Dwight Yorke at Villa. He was an outstanding talent; an absolute match-winner and Villa are lacking a player like him. "He used to score goals, create them, hold the ball up and bring the midfield into play, which is why Manchester United paid so much money for him," Townsend said. "I can remember so many games when we were a bit ordinary and Yorkie would come up with something to rescue us."
