A full report on the brawl that erupted between members of Puerto Rico's River Plate of Puerto Rico and San Juan Jabloteh players at the end of their Caribbean Football Union Club Championship Second Round Group D decider, at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar, on Sunday will be discussed by the CFU Disciplinary Committee later this week. This was confirmed by CFU Acting General Secretary, Neville Ferguson when contacted yesterday.
Ferguson who was at the venue on Sunday when the fracas erupted said the report by Match Commissioner Boris Punch which was handed yesterday will be discussed later this week and the necessary punishments to be handed down to players will be forwarded to the Concacaf Disciplinary Committee who will then take action on the matter. Sunday's brawl came at the end of Jabloteh's 1-0 win over River Plate which secured a CFU Final Round berth for the T&T club. The melee resulted in Police officers from the Malabar Police Station being called in to quell the altercation and escort the visiting players to their awaiting transport.
At the blow of Jamaica referee Courtney Campbell whistle to end the match the unhappy River Plate players attacked Jabloteh scorer Jason Marcano. Marcano, who's strike earned his team a 1-0 win was punched in the face when he tried to shake hands with the visitors while it is alleged goalkeeper Cleon John was also spat on and this did not go down well with Jabloteh players and the crowd and eventually led to the brawl with spectators joining in.
The altercation was partially quelled by Campbell and his assistants while a gunshot was fired by a security guard in an effort to stop the onfield squabbling. Ferguson, along with other T&T Football Federation officials, Lennox Watson and Sharon O'Brien, were among those who tried to resolve the situation. Four players were also issued red cards during the match in River Plate's Maximiliano Vallejos, Raul Ruiz (78th) and Jorge Gonzales (85th), and Jabloteh's Cyrano Glen (75th minute).
