Soca Warriors tackle minnows Belize

The So­ca War­riors will be hop­ing to end a two-match los­ing streak, when they face min­nows Be­lize at the Fi­fa Goal Project in Bel­mopan, Be­lize, from 4 pm, (6 pm TT) to­day. On Tues­day last, the So­ca War­riors suf­fered a sec­ond straight de­feat, 3-0 away to Pana­ma at the Rom­mel Fer­nan­dez Sta­di­um, Pana­ma City, as they con­tin­ued their prepa­ra­tions for the Dig­i­cel Caribbean Cup Sec­ond Round qual­i­fiers at home from No­vem­ber, 2-6. The de­feat for T&T coach Rus­sell Lat­apy fol­lowed a 3-1 loss to Ja­maica at the Mar­vin Lee Sta­di­um, Ma­coya on Au­gust 11. The last win for the So­ca War­riors came at Ma­coya on Ju­ly 21, 4-1 over An­tigua & Bar­bu­da.

Tonight's meet­ing with Be­lize will be the first be­tween both coun­tries with the Fi­fa 76th ranked So­ca War­riors favoured to come out on top against the 180th ranked Cen­tral Amer­i­can out­fit. Speak­ing via tele­phone pri­or the the T&T squad's train­ing ses­sion at the Goal Project venue yes­ter­day, So­ca War­riors man­ag­er, David Muham­mad said the team was ea­ger to get back to win­ning ways. "We had some time to analyse what went wrong against Pana­ma and the guys are all keen to get back on track with re­gards to their Dig­i­cel Caribbean Cup prepa­ra­tions.

"The mood of the play­ers is good and since the match on Tues­day we have done a lot of team in­tro­spec­tion and had some long dis­cus­sions among play­ers and staff about what we need to im­prove on." "We are all keen­ly look­ing for­ward to the match against Be­lize as the guys want to pick back up that win­ning at­ti­tude ahead of our next match," added Muham­mad. Fol­low­ing to­day's en­counter, the So­ca War­riors will re­turn home to­mor­row ahead of four oth­er in­ter­na­tion­al friend­ly match­es against An­tigua & Bar­bu­da (Sep­tem­ber 17), St Lu­cia (Sep­tem­ber 21), Guyana (Sep­tem­ber 26), Bermu­da (Oc­to­ber 6) and four days lat­er away to Ja­maica.
