Three different players were on target as Defence Force put league debutants Valtrin FC on the brink of relegation to its association league after a 31 whipping in their bmobile National Super League match on Wednesday. Going into the match at Teteron Ground, Chaguaramas, Valtrin (16 points) needed a win to inch closer to M&M Harvard which sits in the safe spot on the 11-team table.
However, Keseon Theodore fired Defence Force ahead in the 30th minute while Kevin Jagdeosingh made it 20 in the 47th.
Nathan Lewis pulled a goal back for Valtrin in the 63rd minute, but within five minutes veteran forward Sherman "Ants" Phillip restored Defence Force's two goal cushion, which it held until the final whistle. With the win, Defence Force, which has a match against newly crowned league winners' T&TEC before the Disciplinary Committee, improved to fourth on the table with 27 points. Valtrin, meanwhile, stayed in the relegation zone with 16 points from 18 matches, two ahead of Queen's Park which it faces on Monday at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Training Field, Mucurapo.
