AHMEDABAD – Shai Hope sparkled but only briefly in his third appearance in the Indian Premier League this season, as his Delhi Capitals chased down a paltry 90 to post their third win of the campaign in India on Wednesday.
The stylish right-hander, in his first season in the lucrative T20 league, struck a 10-ball 19 with a four and a brace of sixes, in a 34-run third wicket partnership with Abishek Porel (15), helping the Capitals to a six-wicket win over Gujarat Titans with nearly 11 overs to spare at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
Both fell in the space of five deliveries in successive overs, Hope fourth out in the sixth over caught at short third man after bungling a reverse sweep at leg-spinner Rashid Khan.
Captain Rishabh Pant (16 not out) and Sumit Kumar then saw Delhi over the line in an unbroken fifth wicket stand worth 25.
Choosing to bowl earlier, Delhi easily knocked over Titans for 89 in the 18th over, Mukesh Kumar (3-14) along with fellow seamer Ishant Sharma (2-8) and off-spinner Tristan Stubbs (2-11), proving a handful.
Rashid Khan top-scored with 31 from 24 batting at number eight and was the only player to pass 15.
Hope featured on the opening day of the campaign, scoring 33 in Delhi’s defeat to Punjab Kings, but prior to Wednesday’s outing had played only once since, scoring an unbeaten 11 last Thursday in a six-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants.
