T&T's women's senior national team head coach Kenwyne Jones named four new players to his 22-player squad for the upcoming Concacaf Women’s World Cup qualifiers to the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
The T&T women play away to Turks & Caicos on Saturday, April 9 in Group F before hosting Guyana at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bacolet on Tuesday, April 12 while Guyana hosts Nicaragua on April 8.
The Women Warriors have won both their matches, first a 2-1 victory over Nicaragua in a match played in Guyana before blanking Dominica at home 2-0.
Despite the two wins, the T&T still sit second on the five-team table based on goal difference from Guyana who has scored 11 goals without conceding.
With only the top team advancing from the pool, T&T will need to win big in Turks and Caicos to set up a virtual group decider with Guyana in a potential winner-take-all decider in pool play.
The new faces in the squad named by Jones who is Jones is currently conducting training sessions with the home-based players in preparations for the two critical matches includes the defensive trio of Chelsi Jadoo of Portuguese club Valadares Gaia FC, Shadi Cecily Stoute of the The University of Georgia, USA, Alliyah Trim of local club FC Ginga and midfielder Sarah De Gannes of Brewton-Parker College in the USA.
Among the players left out from the previous for teh first two qualifiers are Abishai Guy (Point Fortin), Meyah Romeo (Detroit City/USA) and Kaydeen Jack (Gambling State University).
A total of six teams in the qualifying competition will advance to the final tournament, joining Canada and the United States, who received byes as the top ranked teams.
The 2022 Concacaf Women's Championship also serves as a qualifier to the women's football tournament at the 2024 Summer Olympics in France.
The two third-place teams will advance to a FIFA Intercontinental Playoff.
The semifinals, final and third-place match of the Concacaf W Championship will be played in a single elimination format, with the winner of the tournament qualifying for both the 2024 Paris Olympics and the inaugural Concacaf W Gold Cup, to be held in 2024.
The Concacaf Women's Championship runner-up and third-place team will also square off in a Concacaf Olympic play-in series, scheduled for September 2023. The winner of the play-in will also qualify for 2024 Paris Olympics and the 2024 Concacaf W Gold Cup.
According to the T&TFA media release further details on ticketing for the April 12 clash with Guyana in Tobago will be released in due course.
