T&T striker Marcus Joseph made it four goals in two matches since the resumption of the Hero I-League in India with two goals in Mohammedan SC's 3-1 whipping of Sreenidi Deccan FC at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangnan Stadium, in Kolkata on Monday.
However, it was the visitors who took the lead early on via Juan David Castaneda in the 16th minute before Joseph got his team on level terms in the 40th minute.
Six minutes after the restart Joseph netted his second of the match and fifth of the season in three matches to put his team 2-1 head before Andjelo Rudovic added a third in the 89th.
With the win, Mohammedan SC improved to a maximum of nine points at the top of the table, two more than Joseph's former club Gokulam Kerela and Neroca.
Last Thursday, Joseph picked up where he left off by scoring both goals as Mohammedan SC blanked Aizawl, the club of fellow T&T internationals Robert Primus and Willis Plaza 2-0.
This was in the first round of matches as the I-League resumed after a two months break due to the coronavirus pandemic to ensure the safety of all the players and officials involved in the league.
The league is being played from within the safety of a bio-bubble, and it did not take Joseph long to get used to the new environment as he netted in the 26th and 34th minutes against the Primus-led Aizawl defence to give his team a 2-0 half-time cushion.
At the half-time interval, Plaza was introduced off the bench for David Llhlansanga, but he failed to spark his team into life.
In their opener against Sudeva Delhi FC in late December, Joseph netted the match-winner before league matches were halted on January 3.
The 13 teams will play against each other once in a round-robin format, in the first round.
Once the first round is over, the teams will be divided into two groups—Group A will consist of the top seven teams that will fight for the championship title, while Group B will consist of the bottom six teams that will be embroiled in a relegation battle.
Each club will play their opponents in their respective groups once in a round-robin format, in the second round.
This is the third straight season for the Point Fortin-born Joseph in the I-League after plying his trade the two previous campaigns with Gokulam Kerala, scoring seven league goals during each of the 2019/2020 and 2018/2019 seasons from 15 and nine matches respectively.
