Naparima Girls College’s Priyanka Khellawan and Samuel Humphreys of Arima Central Secondary captured the Girls and Boys Under-19 Division Singles crown when the when the Scotiabank Schools Table Tennis Tournament concluded at the National Racquet Centre, Orange Grove Road, Tacarigua, on Sunday.
In the girls’ final, Khellawan outplayed ASJA Girls’ Rebekah Sterling, 11-8, 10-12, 11-7, 11-7, to take home the title.
This was after Khellawan beat Holy Faith Convent’s Sariana Ramoutar 11-5, 11-3, 11-5 in her semifinal, and Sterling eased past Mikah Stroude of Naparima Girls, 11-5, 11-6, 11-7.
Humphreys was also taken to four sets in the Boys’ U-19 final before he triumphed, 10-12, 11-8, 12-10, 11-8, over Ameer Mohamed of Fyzabad Intermediate.
In the semifinals, Humphreys outlasted Nirvan Narinesingh of Presentation College of Chaguanas, 11-6, 11-3, 11-8, and Mohamed topped Fatima College’s Nicholas O’Young, 15-13, 11-3, 6-11, 11-5
In the U-15 Boys’, Gabriel John of Trimont College defeated St Anthony’s College’s Kymani Holder, 11-9, 11-7, 11-8, in the final.
Earlier in the semifinals, John of Trimont College brushed aside Kayode Lee of Trinity College East, 11-6, 11-9, 11-5 and Holder beat Fatima’s Raees Elahie, 13-11, 10-12, 11-8, 11-5.
Kaitlyn La Fon of St Joseph’s Convent (St Joseph) also won the U-15 Girls’ title in straight sets, 11-1, 11-12, 11-3 over Karishma Persad of Lakshmi Girls Hindu College.
La Fon earlier battled past Mia Mapp of Lakshmi Girls Hindu College, 8-11, 6-11, 12-10, 15-13, 11-4 in her final-four encounter while Persad beat schoolmate Vaidikaa Singh, 8-11, 11-9, 7-11, 13-11, 11-6
Josiah Joseph of Naparima Boys’ College won the Boys’ U-13 crown after he bettered Jonathan Cottoy of St Mary’s College, 11-7, 11-5, 11-9.
Joseph overwhelmed Fatima College’s Yannic Lewis 11-4, 6-11, 11-6, 11-6 in the semifinals, and Cottoy rallied past Josiah Manley of North Eastern College 11-9, 11-9, 9-11, 11-7
Pre-tournament favourite in the U-13 Girls’ Division, Lyllana Boodhan of Lakshmi Girls’ lived up to her billing when she defeated Ashlea Mohammed ASJA Girls’ Tunapuna 11-4, 11-6, 8-11, 11-2 for their age-group crown.
In the semifinals, Boodhan humbled Shreya Maharaj of ASJA Girls’ Tunapuna 13-11, 11-3, 11-3 and Mohammed stopped Jerisse Elder of St Joseph’s Convent (San Fernando) 11-8, 8-11, 11-7, 11-7
Elizabeth Rajah of Sacred Hearts Girls’ RC won the three-player Girls’ U-11 Singles crown courtesy of wins against Bishops Anstey’s Jannah Mohammed, 7-11, 11-13, 11-9, 11-6, 11-6 and St Monica’s Preparatory’s Abba Campbell-Smith, 11-4, 11-9, 12-14, 9-11, 11-8. Mohammed ended in the second spot via her 11-4, 8-11, 11-9, 12-10 defeat of Campbell-Smith.
Daniel Bhim won the Boys’ Under-11 competition thanks to his 7-11, 11-4, 11-3, 11-6 victory over Liam Rattoo of Warrenville Presbyterian

In the Under-9 Boys’, Coen Mack of St Peter’s Private captured the title thanks to his 11-5, 11-4, 11-5 win against his schoolmate Samir Radge-Coomar.
Mack won his semifinal against Luke Odean of Dunross Preparatory 11-4, 12-10, 11-8, and Radge-Coomar beat Trent Sampath of Tunapuna Hindu School 11-3, 11-6, 11-5.
In the Girls’ U-9 which was contested via a four-player round-robin series with ASJA’s Hidayah Mohammed emerging victorious after beating Rukha Campbell-Smith of St Monica’s 11-5, 11-5, 9-11, 6-11, 11-8; Arima Girls’ Anya Edwards 11-6, 11-3, 11-3, and St Peter’s Private’s Zuri Radge-Coomar 11-5, 11-5, 11-8.
Campbell-Smith won her other matches against Edwards 11-5, 11-3, 11-8 and Radge-Coomar 11-7, 11-6, 11-13, 12-10 for the second spot with a 2-1 record while Radge-Coomar won 11-5, 11-5, 11-5 against Edwards for third.
