T&T senior men's football team coach Dennis Lawrence and captain Khaleem Hyland were both pleased with this country's efforts in a 1-0 to world 19th-ranked Wales in their international friendly on Wednesday in Wales.
The 93rd-ranked T&T, playing its first match for this year put on a spirited performance before falling to a 92nd-minute winner from Ben Woodburn of Liverpool at the Racecourse Ground, Wrexham.
Lawrence who signed a new contract with the local federation earlier this year said Wales were very lucky.
"I am more gutted for the boys because I don't think that we deserved that result tonight (Wednesday), but that's football and if we don't concentrate until all the way up to the end, things like these can happen," he said."As I said I am gutted for the boys but we came here for a reason. We came here in preparation for the Gold Cup Tournament (June/July) so it was a good workout for us."
The T&T coach also dismissed any notion that Wales took T&T for granted as they gifted debuts to no fewer than eight players while resting star duo, Gareth Bale of Real Madrid and Arsenal's Aaron Ramsey.
He said, "I think at the end of the day when you look at international football now and the quality they (Wales) put on the pitch tonight, I think they did them justice in the team selection. They were very confident on the ball, and you could see good work, so I don't think they underestimated us at all.
"I think at the end of the day, you play international friendlies for a reason, to work on something because I see it as work.
Commenting on the exclusion of Bale from the Welsh 18-man squad for the match, Lawrence said he was a bit surprised.
"I thought not playing in north Wales for a while, I thought they would have wanted the fans to see a little bit of Gareth but as I said before they have got decisions to make and they made the ones that they thought was best of Wales and best for Gareth".
Saudia Arabia-based Hyland said it was difficult for his team to play so well and lose.
"Congratulations to the whole team with the effort but unfortunately we lost the match and we don't like to lose any game. Everyone did the jobs and performed within their role and function and I think it was a great effort."
Looking ahead, Hyland said, "Everybody has to keep believing in themselves, what they can and what they can bring to the team.
"We also have other players who we are hoping to be fit and get back to the team to make the squad stronger and bring more competition for selection, which will help us in the long run for the Gold Cup.
Ryan Giggs, former Manchester United standout said he was pleased with his team's first-half as T&T did not create anything going forward.
"We rode our luck a little bit in the second-half with Gunt clearing off the line and credit to T&T, second-half they made difficult for us, behind the ball and looking to counter-attack, and we had to be patient.
"So for us and the result, I am really pleased because we had a lot of new players and debuts, different levels of fitness and playing together for the first time".
With respect to the omission of Bale, Giggs said it was just too much of a risk with Sunday's European Championship Qualifier in mind against Slovakia, and that was the case with a few other players as well.
"So I give the chance to a few other players to push forward for selection on Sunday, but also to keep a lot of the players fresh because we have this advantage with Slovakia playing on Thursday and then the quick turn around to Sunday.
"So I wanted to make our advantage of having the key players get enough rest in the build-up. Yes, it's disappointing for the fans because they want to see the likes of Gareth, but obviously, it's my job to make sure that we are ready for Sunday."
