First Citizens Foundation 2009 Sportsman of the Year Renny Quow will begin his World Indoor Championships campaign this morning when he runs his 400m heat in Doha, Qatar at 2.35 am (T&T time). The 22-year-old clocked 45.02 seconds to win a bronze medal at last year’s World Championships in Germany but has had a relatively slow start to the 2010 season.

He will need to improve on personal best time this season of 47.15 to compete against a field which will include Americans Bershawn Jackson and Jamaal Torrance, Ireland’s David Gillick and Bahamian Chris Brown. Also running the 400m will be US-born T&T team member Jarrin Solomon who will also be looking to top on his best time in 2010 (47.19).

Shot putter Cleopatra Borel-Browne will round out T&T’s largest delegation to compete in the 13-year-old meet. The Commonwealth Games and Pan American Games bronze medallist was a finalist at both the 2005 and 2008 Championships. Her qualification round will take place this morning at 2:20 am (T&T).

The 400m semifinals will be later in the day at 12.30 pm (T&T) with the final being run at 11.05 am (T&T) tomorrow. The shot put final will be on Sunday at 9.35 am (T&T). President of the National Association of Athletics Administration Ephraim Serrette is serving as the team’s manager.
