The trio of owner Shivam Maharaj, jockey Carlos Rojas and trainer Harriram Gobin dominated Day 11 of the Arima Race Club (ARC) eight-race programme. The trio combined to win three events on the card including, the feature Handicap Event for Horses Rated 70 and Over over 1,750 metres on the main track at Santa Rosa Park, yesterday.
Punters made the four-year-old colt Master of War the overwhelming favourite at 1-5 odds to land his four-timer at the centralised facility.
With one of five runners being scratched, the field of four was sent on its way with Master of War not expected to be beaten.
Whisper Light broke alertly this time around after dislodging his rider Kerron Khelawan last time out and held the advantage until Yosenyer Serrano sent Onefortheroad up to take the lead. These were tracked back by Master of War with the old-stager Buffalo Soldier trailing some eight lengths off the pace.
Going down the back-straight Whisper Light came back to put his head in front of Onefortheroad with Master of War cruising in third and Buffalo Soldier being bustled along to stay in touch. Midway down the back, Carlos Rojas gave Master of War his head and the son of Bridled Quest/Senorita Sinki cruised past the battling Whisper Light and Onefortheroad.
At the far turn, Master of War opened a three-length gap on Whisper Light and Onefortheroad and turned the race into a procession.
At the corner, Master of War was in full command as Buffalo Soldier moved into second as Whisper Light and Onefortheroad cried enough.
The only possible challenge looked likely to come from Buffalo Soldier but Master of War was not going to be beaten and won by three lengths at the line in a time of 1:52.2. Whisper Light was 13 1/2 lengths adrift in third.
