The Matthew Pierre Basketball Academy will be back to defend its title in the Momentum Invitational League.
The second edition of the men’s Under-23 basketball tournament is set to ignite the courts once again from May 18 to June 16 at the Maloney Indoor Sports Arena.
Eight prominent teams are gearing up to compete in the 2024 edition, promising electrifying match-ups and fierce competition. Among the contenders are familiar faces like the Maloney Pacers Basketball Club and Youth Development Programme, Spartans TT, and New Chapter Global Sport Academy, along with rising challengers such as Royalty Basketball Academy, Point Fortin Veterans Basketball Academy, winner of the Under-21 division in the South Zone Basketball League, Arouca New Age Lions and Coach KG Elite.
The tournament, tailored exclusively for young men aged 23 years and under, remains steadfast in its mission to elevate the sport by providing a platform for emerging talents to shine. With each game, players will have the opportunity to showcase their skills, compete at the highest level, and gain invaluable experience in a competitive environment.
The defending champions, the Matthew Pierre Basketball Academy, are poised to defend their title after their victory in the inaugural competition. However, the team from Mayaro will face stiff competition from contenders like the Maloney Pacers, fresh off their Destiny Invitational Arima League (DIAL) Championship win, Spartans TT, runner-up in the DIAL competition, and New Chapter, eager to avenge their runner-up finish in the previous edition of Momentum.
The tournament format will feature a two-pool round-robin group stage, followed by a single-elimination medal round. Teams will battle it out over five weekends, with games scheduled on both Saturdays and Sundays. The semifinal match-ups will be determined by each team’s finishing position in the pool (AI vs BII and BI vs AII), setting the stage for intense showdowns as they vie for a spot in the coveted final.
