Makeda Bain and Lily Mohammed were in ominous form on day two of the Catch Junior Tournament at the National Racquet Centre in Orange Grove, Tcaarigua on Sunday.
Mohammed, one of three daughters of former player Shenelle Mohammed and who was also in a team that represented T&T at the recent World Junior Tennis Tournament in El Salvador earlier this month, had an easy time in the girls' 14 and Under division, disposing of Suri Ramcharan in her first match 6-0, 6-0 before later destroying her sister Karissa Mohammed on court two 6-2, 6-3.
But she was not the only player with an unblemished record on the day, as Bain, a triple crown winner at the RBC Junior Tennis Tournament in Tobago last year, was equally destructive on the day. In her first encounter, the number two-seeded Bain made light work out of Cherdine Sylvester in the same 14 and under category 6-0, 6-4, and later in the 12 and under round-robin play-off, she whipped Keyah Roberts in straight sets 4-0, 4-0.
With the top four seeded players able to contest other divisions, Ramcharan (Suri) later returned to the courts to exact her earlier loss by beating Samiya Mohammed 4-1 in the 12 and under division.
Also in the girls' 12 and under Isabella Rambhajan brushed aside Sheana Phillip 4-2, 4-0.
In the boys' equivalent, Josiah Hills, the number one seed in the tournament delivered a 4-2, 4-1 victory over Zelig Williams; Eli Paty defeated Dhruv Rambhajan 4-1, 4-0; third-seeded Justin Duncan swept aside Aidan Silva 4-0, 4-0 and fourth-seed Sebastian Plimmer took care of Oliver Khan 4-1, 4-1.
Meanwhile in the boys' 14 and under, Oliver Harragin clobbered Jaiden Gormandy 6-4, 6-1, Nirav Dougdeen destroyed Ridello Boodhai 6-3, 6-0 and Jack Browne survived the fight of his life to prevail over Noah Blanc 6-4, 2-6, 13-11.
