Carlista Mohammed and Abigail Jones, both advanced to the semifinals of the Girls Singles category of the Shell Tranquility Tennis Open at the tournament's courts on Victoria Avenue in Port-of-Spain on Wednesday.
Mohammed, the number one seed, took two sets to dispose of Kimberly Sabga 6-1, 6-0 on court two for her place among the top four players in the singles. Jones though faced more of a challenge in her encounter, before eventually prevailing 6-3, 6-4 over Farrah Chautilal.
Meanwhile, St Lucian McCollin Fontenelle also advanced past the round of 16 in the Veteran Men's Singles by whipping Athelstan Phillips 6-1, 6-0, along with Brian Jackson, the number four seed who progressed at the expense of Winston John 6-2, 6-2.
The veteran men's singles also featured victories for Karl Woods, moving forward without taking the courts, courtesy a walk-over victory of Frank Ramudit, Dion Auguste who clobbered Jerome Burrows 6-1, 6-0 and Ricky Villaroel getting the better of Hayden Salim 6-3, 6-2.
The Women's veterans singles also saw victory for Jacqueline Straessle-Chin Lee over Catherine Campbell-Frost, 6-2, 6-0.
