Tennis queen Carlista Mohammed came from a match down in the opening set, to beat Aalisha Alexis in straights sets for the Girls Singles title of the Open National Tennis Championship at the National Racquet Centre (NRC) in Orange Grove, Tacarigua yesterday.
Constantly encouraging herself to stop playing like a little girl, Mohammed, ranked the top seed going into the final, quickly adjusted her play to take the advantage two matches to one soon after, before claiming the set 6-2.
In the other set, Mohammed, who won the Shell Tranquility Women's singles crown a few months ago, prevailed 6-3. using her experience to telling effect over the youthful Alexis.
Later Mohammed joined with Keshan Moonasar in the Mixed Doubles to advance to the final when they defeated the pair of Aaron Woodford and Nalini Maharaj in two sets 6-3, 7-5. They will face the team of Jerome Ward and Cameron Wong, who took care of Ebolum N'wokolo and Osenyonye N'wokolo 6-2, 6-4 in the other semifinal encounter.
Meanwhile, in the Women's 35-plus round robin playoff, Farrah Chautilal wasted little time in disposing of Rachael N'wokolo 6-0, 6-1 on court five.
And in the men's veterans doubles, Dion Auguste and Richard Mc Letchie defeated Andy Boyce and Richard Sorillo 6-2, 6-4 in the round robin.
