After a 10-year hiatus, Adasha Norton returned to the court in fine shooting form to help Fire Service 'Y' edge Jabloteh by a goal (33-32) in their 'X' Group match-up of the First Division in the Lystra Lewis Port-of-Spain Netball League on Saturday.
Norton, who replaced opening goal-shooter Dionne James, produced 23 goals from 30 attempts to help Fire escape with the narrow victory on court one at the Jean Pierre Complex in Mucurapo. James ended 10 from 14 while opening goal-attack Oresha Joseph went scoreless from nine attempts.
Jabloteh left the court a disappointed bunch after leading for most of the match, 8-6 in the first quarter, 14-10 at half time and 24-22 at the end of the third quarter. This was thanks to the effort of goal-shooter Samantha James, who led her team with 25 from 41 while her goal-attack Lilia Cameron netted the other seven goals from 11 tries.
However, the Fire unit made a run in the final session, outscoring its opponent 11-8 to claim the win by a goal.
In the second match on court one, Defence Force 'X' team boosted by former national players goal-shooter Anastacia Wilson and defender Crystal-Ann George, made light work of Fire 'Z', beating them 51-31.
George, known for her defensive abilities, was partnered with Wilson in the shooting circle and the goal-attack netted a team-high 18 from 29 while Wilson poured in 15 from 21 in a match which the army/coastguard combination team led from the first pass, holding leads of 14-4, 27-12 and 39-17 at the end of the first three quarters before claiming the easy 30-goal victory.
Leslie Cameisha scored the bulk of Fire 'Z' team's goals with 18 of 28.
In other matches played that evening on court two in the First Division 'Y' Group, defending champion Fire 'X' won its second consecutive match beating SWWTU Malvern, 39-16, despite its leading shooter Simone Morgan not having her best shooting display, hitting 27 from 50, but it was enough to her team the win.
Earlier, Horizon bounced back from its opening loss to Fire 'X' to defeat Defence Force 'Y'32-14. Shooting for the winner were goal-shooter Crystal Jones (17/28) and Jocelyn Marcelle (15/24), who had their team ahead at the end of each quarter - 9-2, 17-5 and 26-8, respectively before completing the lopsided victory.
