Champion trainer John O'Brien introduced a very good juvenile filly in the form of the two-year-old Jamaican bred - Shes So Spectacula last Saturday at Santa Rosa Park, Arima.
The filly raced in the fourth event for West Indian bred two-year-olds maidens over 1,300 metres, and won in a time of 1:20.60 on Day 38 of the Arima Race Club's (ARC) racing season, sponsored by Xtra Foods.
The Chevan Maharaj owned filly had been flying at exercise and proved that her dazzling performance on the morning was no fluke. The filly by Soul Warrior/Princess Gheeta was sent off as the 7-5 second favourite behind the twice-raced Harold Chadee trained Regal Intension.
O'Brien said, "She is a very good filly. She has done all that we asked of her for this event and she will no doubt go on to better things. The manner in which we quickened up, says she could be a very good filly in the making."
When the horses were sent on their way, Shes So Spectacula broke swiftly with Regal Intension and Dakota. However, after 50m Dakota took over with Regal Intension pressing in second as Rico Hernandez was contented to take the tow in third on Shes So Spectacula.
At the far turn, Regal Intension took over from Dakota and Hernandez eased Shes So Spectacula closer to the leaders.
Coming to the corner, Regal Intension and Wilmer Galviz still lead but Shes So Spectacula was upside and asking for the lead. The pair began to pull away from Dakota in third. However, with 200m left Shes So Spectacula quickened up impressively on her debut to begin to pull away from the battling Regal Intension. Shes So Spectacula beat Regal Intension by two lengths.
"Rider Rico Hernandez was very impressed with the filly," said O'Brien. "This filly has been working well and we expected that she would run well but this was a super performance. She was always travelling well and when Hernandez asked her to go win the race in the final 200m, she responded immediately to run away for an emphatic success."
Based on this performance, it will take a very good filly to stop her from winning the St Ann’s Stakes on Boxing Day.
O'Brien said, "She will now go for the St Ann's Stakes on Boxing Day. I think she will be very difficult to beat as she has already beaten a good colt in Regal Intension."
