Horse of the year 2008 Storm Street, gave his owner the Dachin Racing Stable something to smile about as he continued his quest for a second lien on Horse Of The Year title. Storm Street, which has now won three races on the trot gave his owners a well needed boost after the stable lost the talented Godspell which won the second leg of local racing's Triple Crown the Midsummer Classic in 2006.
The Christopher Prime trained thoroughbred scored an impressive success in last Saturday's feature event–The Derek Cozier Memorial Sprint over 1,100 metres, when coming home five and a half lengths ahead of Summer Cactus to take the $75,000 first prize cheque.
However, the stable has encountered some misfortune over the past decade and has lost some top class thoroughbred in the process.
In 2007, Film Director, which was the best horse in training at the time to compete at the Woodbine Race Course in Canada suffered a career-ending injury in his first start.
In 2004 the stable's Daredevil Hero broke loose before the Arima Race Club Cup and galloped around the track before falling into a ditch before having to be euthanised. Now the racing fraternity will no longer see Godspell which died ten days ago at Carenage, when being taken for his usual swim. The six-year-old son of Freshly Squeezed finished fifth in last year's Gold Cup behind creole Chief Commander. Godspell earned $408,117 from his 29 career starts.
