Blue Nymph to win Southwell maiden stakes
Bang in-form trainer, Richard Fahey, has found an ideal opportunity for twice-raced Emerald Girl, in the thirteen-runner Maiden Auction Stakes over five furlongs at Beverley today which, quality-wise, is dreadful.
Four programmes, littered with claimers, sellers and moderate handicaps, mean that selectivity will be the key. It’s been difficult to come up with a patent! It’s easy to find a nap because on my time-handicap, Emerald Girl is nigh on a penalty-kick and there is no better striker around than Paul Hanagan, who has scored more than 50 times this season. The Fahey/Hanagan combination has certainly emerged this past eighteen months, the direct result of hard work, dedication and friendship.
Both seem likeable chaps and good pals, to punters! Emerald Girl is drawn seven, absolutely ideal and it’s just a question of her replicating recent Carlisle form, when she was runner-up to our selection, Midnight Martini. Hanagan then journeys to Southwell, for Blue Nymph in the Maiden Stakes over 12 furlongs of fibresand. Blue Nymph will need to be fit which might be a deciding factor. Only danger, Choral Festival hasn’t raced for 315 days and even though he’s trained by Sir Mark Prescott, I’ll take my chance.
Although Hayley Turner has five rides at Brighton, none appeals which is vexing because she rides this track superbly. However, another female natural is Kelly Harrison, who journeys a million miles from her Middleham base, primarily to partner Guto in the nine-runner all-aged handicap over five furlongs at Yarmouth. Relying on fibresand form can be dodgy but Guto has so much in hand judged on recent form, and with Kelly’s three pounds appprentice allowance, that I’ve simply got to play, each-way, with three places on offer.
