Eleven-time Carifta gold medallist Gavyn Nero and Jehue Gordon both claimed silver medals to push T&T's medal tally to three silver and one bronze at the 15th edition of the Pan American Junior Track and Field Championships at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Mucarapo, Port of Spain , yesterday. The medals for T&T which came within a half hour of each other in the second session, much to the delight of the crowd, started with Gordon in the men's 400 metres hurdles.
After an even start in the race, USA 's William Wynne, who broke the Pan American record in the event in the preliminary round with a time of 49.89 the previous day, pulled ahead of the eight man field. Gordon, who was in second, attempted to take the lead on the seventh hurdle but lost valuable ground after losing his rhythm. Wynne, however, kept his form and finished the race in a time of 49.31 seconds, once again setting a new record. Gordon clocked 50.08 to claim second, while another American Reginald Wyatt was third in 50.61.
In the men's 800 metres, Nero picked up his silver after running second to Cuba 's Raidel Acea Morales. After sitting in third place for much of the race Nero was eventually able to pass USA's Joseph Abbot, who was in second just before the finish line. Morales completed the event in a time of 1:48.09, while Nero finished in a time of 1:48.90 and Abbot third in a time of 1:48.99.
