Ladies' third seed Trevine Sellier comfortably moved into the quarterfinals of the Tennis Association of T&T Open, when she defeated African Rachael Nwokolo 60, 60 at St George V Park in St Clair last night. Sellier's next match will be against Elyse Maggiori, who yesterday walked over Breana Stampfli. That clash takes place at 9 am this morning. "I feel confident but everyone is going to be coming out strong so we'll see what happens," she said after her match yesterday. Top seed Renee Branker will play her first match today against Danielle Soo Ping, who earned her spot in the quarterfinals by beating Danielle Chin 62, 63.
Men's top seed Richard Chung, who was scheduled to play his first match against Javier Lewis last night, said that he had little preparation going into the tournament. "My expectations are not very high," he admitted. "My coach entered me in this tournament and I started training for it on Monday. I'm doing my degree programme so it's kind of hectic to balance tennis and school work at the same time. "I think my draw is a bit unfortunate. I have to play Yohansey (Williams) in the second round. He might be an underdog in the tournament but not really for me. He's beaten me the last three times I've played him."
