Cham­pi­on jock­ey, Ricky Jadoo is set to re­peat last year's suc­cess in the Jock­ey's Cham­pi­onship with on­ly one day re­main­ing. Cham­pi­on train­er, Glenn Mendez has al­ready won the train­er's cham­pi­onship in the win cat­e­go­ry, with his fifty-eight (53) suc­cess­es, while John O'Brien has al­ready won the train­er cham­pi­onship for prize mon­ey, hav­ing an unas­sail­able lead. Jadoo, who rode one win­ner, Sil­ver Surfer, last Sat­ur­day, pushed his tal­ly to 27 wins, two ahead of ap­pren­tice Nicholas Patrick, who rode one win­ner on the sev­en race card, as the penul­ti­mate day of rac­ing for the 2009 sea­son end­ed.

Full fledged rid­er Richard Perez, who rides for train­er De­r­ick Mosca needs to win three races on Gold Cup day and from my van­tage point that is im­pos­si­ble. How­ev­er, Patrick is cer­tain to be named ap­pren­tice cham­pi­on, as he holds a three win lead on Ronald Ali, who has 22 wins with on­ly the bumper ten race Box­ing Day card left. The fi­nal day of the sea­son–Box­ing Day is al­ways a day for the big train­ers, big jock­eys and with Patrick Hus­bands be­ing brought in to part­ner Black­stone Street in the Gold Cup, he will not leave emp­ty hand­ed.

To­mor­row, cham­pi­on train­ers, Glenn Mendez and arch ri­val, John O'Brien who usu­al­ly win six of the ten events can re­peat the job. From my count the fi­nal day of the 2009 sea­son will be no dif­fer­ent, with cham­pi­on own­er Al­lan Madoo get­ting in on the ac­tion, maybe once. The on­ly ques­tion which will need to be an­swered on Box­ing Day is, who is the best stay­er in the South Caribbean and the an­swer will be ei­ther Bruceon­th­eloose or Black­stone Street. My se­lec­tion for the Gold Cup is Bruceon­th­eloose, which has been giv­en an easy time by train­er O'Brien over the past month but with the Gold Cup in sight, I ex­pect a com­mand per­for­mance to­mor­row.
