Esan Wiltshire, former Queens Royal College (QRC) student, will be going all out to retain the First Citizens Bank Chess Champion trophy on tomorrow in the seventh annual Secondary/Tertiary Schools Chess Championship. The tournament is being held at Algico Plaza, St Vincent Street in Port-of-Spain.
Wiltshire's greatest challenge will be national Under-14 champion Keron Cabralis of St Mary's College. Cabralis recently placed third in the national final behind Marcus Joseph and Fide Master (FM) Ryan Harper. Highly considered for the top prize are the trio from University of T&T (UTT) national women's champion Aditi Soondarsingh, national U-18 winner Kevin Cupid and national U-16 victor Alpacino Smith.
Participating are UTT, St Mary's College, Fatima College, UWI, North Eastern College, Chinmaya High (Couva), St Joseph Convent (Port-of-Spain), Holy Name Convent (Port-of-Spain) and Holy Faith Convent (Couva). The event is organised by T&T Chess Academy and Promotion (TTCAP). It is open to all Secondary and Tertiary students, 21 years and under.
