De­fend­ing Un­der-14 cham­pi­on Bre­ana Stampfli com­fort­ably re­tained her ti­tle, with a com­mand­ing straight sets win over Aman­da Soo Ping Chow in the sec­ond leg of the Ten­nis As­so­ci­a­tion of T&T (TATT) 14 and un­der four se­ries event at the Tacarigua Re­gion­al Sports Com­plex, yes­ter­day. The bat­tle to de­cide who re­al­ly was the Un­der-14 cham­pi­on, nev­er lived up to ex­pec­ta­tion as the de­fend­ing champ showed why she was the num­ber one play­er. She took the open­ing set 4-0 on Court 1, break­ing her op­po­nent twice, which was al­so aid­ed by a num­ber of un­forced er­rors.

Stampfli used the court well, push­ing Soo Ping Chow from side to side while she con­trolled the pace. Soo Ping Chow start­ed the sec­ond set break­ing Stampfli and at that stage she seemed to have re­cov­ered from her first set blow out. How­ev­er, the St Joseph Con­vent sec­ond form stu­dent, quick­ly changed things in the next set, as she broke her op­po­nent to lev­el the set at one game each. She then held serve, be­fore break­ing Soo Ping Chow for the sec­ond time. The sec­ond seed seemed to be rat­tled and could not have caught her length, as she hit shots long, while dou­ble fault­ing twice. The de­fend­ing champ then served out the match, to claim the ti­tle.

Ear­li­er the top two seeds drew byes in­to the se­mi-fi­nals, where they de­feat­ed Sha­nia Milling­ton and Kaeleigh De­sil­va. Stampfli took care of Milling­ton 4-1, 4-0, while Soo Ping Chow eased past De­sil­va 4-1, 4-1. On the boy's side, Adam Suite seemed to have got­ten use to com­ing back from a set down, as he did it in the se­mi-fi­nal and then in the fi­nal against Joshua Abra­ham. Abra­ham took the first set at ze­ro. How­ev­er the nev­er-say-die Suite bounced back to claim the next two sets 0-4, 4-0, 4-0 win and the ti­tle. In se­mi-fi­nal ac­tion, both Suite and Abra­ham came back from a set down to ad­vance to the fi­nal. Suite pulled off a big up­set over favourite Jualon Greig, 1-4, 4-1, 5-3, while Abra­ham de­feat­ed Ross Hack­shaw 4-5 (3), 4-2, 5-3, in a match which last­ed close to two hours on court 3.
