Jehue Gordon is at the head of the 2010 world junior (Under 20) rankings in the 110 and 400 metres hurdles events. In the 110 hurdles, Gordon tops the standings following his win in the Carifta Games in Cayman Islands on April 5 where he won in 13.41 seconds, a new Carifta and national junior record. He erased the old Carifta mark of 13.42 seconds set by Ryan Brathwaite of Barbados in 2007 and old national standard of 13.86 seconds he set in taking gold at the 2009 Carifta Games in St Lucia. In the 400m hurdles, Gordon is first with 49.65. He achieved that mark by winning at the Tobago Falcons Games in Bacolet on March 28.
He also has the second fastest time of 49.76 which he set in taking his second gold in the Cayman Islands. Several other national athletes are featured in the last world ranking released by the International Association of Athletic Federation. Quincy Wilson is ranked third in the discus event. The former Belmont Intermediate student established a national record of 62.95m, taking silver. The South Plain College student is also tenth in the shot put after he threw the 6 kg iron ball 18.67m to win the Carifta gold. The top junior woman is reigning Carifta girls U-20 100m champion, Michelle Lee Ahye, who is fourth in the 100m sprint ranking. Lee Ahye, a four-time Carifta champion, clocked 11.51 seconds in taking the gold.
Quartermiler Deon Lendore is listed at fifth in the 400m category. Fellow Carifta 400m silver medallist Sparkle McKnight is at number ten in the 400m hurdles with a time of 59.20 seconds. She went on to finish just out of the medals in the one lap hurdles race, losing the bronze to teammate Gabriella Cumberbatch. The national girls U-20 4x400m team which won silver at Carifta is listed at second in junior girls mile relay. The quartet of McKnight, Jessica James, Cumberbatch and Aleena Brooks combined to clocked 3:37.32 to finish second behind Jamaica.
