Phillip ranks third in the world

T&T cy­clist Njisane Phillip is cur­rent­ly ranked third in the world in the In­di­vid­ual Sprint ac­cord­ing to the In­ter­na­tion­al Cy­cling Union. The 19-year-old won a sil­ver medal in the event dur­ing the Pan Amer­i­can Track Cham­pi­onships in Mex­i­co three weeks ago, fin­ish­ing be­hind Cana­da's Travis Smith who oc­cu­pies the num­ber one spot with Chi­na's Miao Zhang on 170 points.

Phillip's 130 points places him in a tie with South Ko­rea's Dong Jin Kang while world num­ber one in the Kilo­me­tre Christo­pher Sel­l­i­er, the on­ly oth­er Trinida­di­an in the top 30, is ranked 17th with 20 points. Phillip and Kang al­so share the num­ber sev­en po­si­tion in the Keirin with 90 points each.

In the Team Sprint, T&T's trio of Sel­l­i­er, Phillip and Azik­we Kel­lar is ranked fifth be­hind Co­lum­bia, Japan, Venezuela and Chi­na re­spec­tive­ly. Kel­lar is 30th in the Kilo­me­tre Time Tri­al while Adam Alexan­der is 34th in the Scratch and 19th in the Om­ni­um. (NC)
