The Fifa Grassroots Instructors course which ended at the Dr Joao Havelange Centre of Excellence on Friday is aimed at providing the necessary guidance to countries throughout the region on how to reach out to youngsters who are not privileged to access development skills at the club or national level. This was the feedback presented by Fifa Grassroots coordinator Jorge Diaz Garcia who arrived from Spain to oversee the seminar. Garcia pointed out that the week-long event was one of the more promising ones he had been to and he expected that the region should benefit from the knowledge being passed on.
"What we are trying to achieve is a level of understanding for the development of the game at the lowest level...the grassroots level where youngsters can learn the game and understand it better through assistance from coaches of the various national associations. "We intend to help all the associations but Fifa has been saying when associations can implement measures to improve the development, then they will give the necessary assistance from providing all the equipment, the expertise and even financing where necessary," said Garcia. Governments are also earmarked to be part of the project. The focus will be placed on teaching the game to children between the ages of 6-12 and coaches from the various countries are being taught on how to pass on the coaching skills to other coaches from their respective countries who can then go into the various communities and work.
