Director on the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Baldath Mahabir says he is one of the supporters of Darren Sammy and is looking for good things from him. Mahabir, who hails from T&T and is one of this country's representative on the WICB, said he was one of the directors who threw his support behind Sammy. "The other main contenders for the captaincy eliminated themselves by not accepting the central retainer contracts and Sammy in my view was the best of the lot that remained. "I am a supporter of Sammy and I am looking forward to good things from him. I think that his heart and head is in the right place and he wants to do well for the West Indies."
Looking back at the 0-0 rain-marred series in Sri Lanka, Mahabir said: "We have to be happy with any positive movement right now and we are really looking forward to the team doing even better. "Although the series was affected badly by rain we saw a lot from the team that was positive and hopefully they can build on it." Mahabir said he had no problems with Keiron Pollard, Dwayne Bravo and Chris Gayle not playing in the upcoming regional T20 cricket series.
"I have no problems with these guys not playing in the series because they are looking at betterment for themselves in terms of finances and we have to respect that. "One has to maximise one's earn potential and I am one who is not upset with the players for their action. I want to wish them all the best and hopefully when a window of opportunity presents itself, they can represent the West Indies. "You see this happening all the time in world football, where the top players have only limited chances of playing for their country with their club commitments being very hectic."
