T&T cyclist Nicholas Paul can't seem to stop winning. Only a day after he rode into the world record books for the fastest time (9.100 seconds, after shaving 0.247 hundredths of a second of the previous mark) in the flying 200 metres event, Paul took just two rides on Saturday to defeat Jair Tjon En Far of Suriname in the final at the Cochabamba Velodrome in Bolivia.
Paul, feared for his sprinting power produced a time of 10.451 in the first ride and then he made sure with a blistering 9.583 to confirm the gold medal at an average speed of 75.13km/h. Meanwhile, Colombia's Kevin Quintero secured the bronze medal by defeating Hersony Canelon of Venezuela. Earlier Paul took care of Canelon in the first of two semifinal races, beating him in straight sets with a time of 10.002 and 9.837 seconds.
Keron Bramble, the only other T&T rider in the event, was booted out by Quintero in the quarterfinal round of the competition. Bramble, in spite of his placing in the quarter-final round, has been an inspiration to his teammates, as he has ridden almost every day from the start of the championships.
