The T&T Box­ing As­so­ci­a­tion (TT­BA) will ho­n­our all its box­ers and of­fi­cials who have per­formed and achieved at the high­est lev­els of the sport, when the Am­a­teur In­ter­na­tion­al Box­ing As­so­ci­a­tion (AI­BA) cel­e­brates In­ter­na­tion­al Box­ing Day on Fri­day (Au­gust 27).

Ce­cil Forde, pres­i­dent of the TT­BA, said as his as­so­ci­a­tion is a mem­ber of AI­BA, they will be join­ing the cel­e­bra­tions, and box­ers who have per­formed at the Olympic Games such as Don Smith (1984 Los An­ge­les, USA), Nim­ral Lorick (1984 Los An­ge­les), Kirt Sin­nette (1996 At­lanta), Car­los Suarez (2012 Lon­don), Nigel Paul (2016 Brazil) and Aaron Prince (2020 Tokyo, Japan) will be ho­n­oured.

They will join the box­ers who did well at the Cen­tral Amer­i­can and Caribbean (CAC) Games, the Com­mon­wealth Games, the Pan Amer­i­can Games as well as oth­er coach­es, ref­er­ees and judges.

For­mer box­er Ria Ram­nar­ine, the WI­BA min­i­mumweight ti­tle-hold­er from 2005 to 200 and hold­er of the WIBF min­i­mumweight and WI­BA light fly­weight ti­tles in 2011, will al­so be ho­n­oured.

Forde said the TT­BA is ea­ger­ly await­ing the open­ing of all gyms, as they in­tend to con­duct reg­is­ter­ing and do site vis­its to en­sure that every­one and every­thing is in place as they fo­cus on the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

"Most of our youth box­ers will be mak­ing the tran­si­tion to the se­nior lev­el and from De­cem­ber, hope­ful­ly with the host­ing of the Caribbean Cham­pi­onships, se­ri­ous com­pe­ti­tions will be­gin.

"To­ba­go has been very qui­et, we will be chang­ing that soon. Our first ini­tia­tive would be the host­ing of a na­tion­al Lev­el 1 and Lev­el 2 Coach­ing Course. All gyms must have a lev­el 2 coach as head coach in mov­ing for­ward. The lo­cal box­ing boss is urg­ing the mem­bers of all the gyms and oth­er box­ing of­fi­cials to get vac­ci­nat­ed as they move for­ward."
