T&T amateur golf open champion Chris Richards Jr is set to defend his title in Tobago, next week.
Richards won the title in 2023 at St Andrew's Golf Course and will now defend his crown at the Tobago Plantation, where he won the 2022 and the 2023 Tobago Open. It will be the 116th edition of the Open and will see a total of 150 golfers of varying ages at the Magdalena Golf and Beach Resort in Tobago from Thursday and to March 17.
Organisers revealed that the plantation course has been upgraded and they expect a bumper tournament as golfers from nine countries which includes Barbados, Bahamas, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, Guyana, Jamaica, Canada, and the USA, just to name a few, will all be in attendance. They will all descend on the sister isle to tee off with high hopes for the four-day competition.
The event also falls in line with T&T's drive to push and promote sports tourism in the country. Additionally, local golfers will have an added incentive to impress at the tournament because it will be used as part of the criteria for selecting golfers for the Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championship and the Caribbean Amateur Golf Championship in July.
