Roberts, Khan excel at SKIF KG TT National Championships

Tyrese Roberts and Solange Khan were among the top fin­ish­ers at the Shotokan Karate do In­ter­na­tion­al Fed­er­a­tion Kanaza­wa Group T&T’s (SKIF KG TT) 13th Na­tion­al Cham­pi­onships which was spon­sored by Re­pub­lic Bank Lim­it­ed on April 23. The event was held at their Hom­bu (main) Do­jo at La Joya.

Roberts won gold in the brown belt di­vi­sion, for boys’ ages 15 to 17 cat­e­go­ry, ahead of sec­ond-placed Jadon Wal­cott while Joshua Singh and Bran­don Ryan tied for third place at the tour­na­ment which fea­tured on­ly ka­ta (forms) and field­ed par­tic­i­pants of dif­fer­ent ranks, from five years to over 40.

Khan’s suc­cess came in the 18 and Over cat­e­go­ry, girls’ white to yel­low di­vi­sion. In sec­ond spot was Elenor Cum­ber­batch.

In the six and un­der group, Za­meer Har­ryper­sad ex­celled to top the boys’ white to yel­low di­vi­sion with Michael Sam­my in sec­ond and in third place was Aryan Ram­per­sad.

The SKIF KG TT re­opened their Do­jo doors on March 17 and jumped right back in­to their pro­gramme, af­ter a two-year hia­tus due to the COVID-19 pan­dem­ic.

The event was or­gan­ised by SKIF KG TT ex­ec­u­tive and tech­ni­cal team with the main in­ten­tion to help mem­bers re­con­nect.

The Cham­pi­onships is the first of a se­ries

of ini­tia­tives the or­gan­i­sa­tion has on its agen­da to get back on track with its ob­jec­tives.

Next on the agen­da is the SKIF KG TT na­tion­al grad­ing and team prepa­ra­tion for SKIF World Cham­pi­onships to be held in Japan 2023.
