Tyrese Roberts and Solange Khan were among the top finishers at the Shotokan Karate do International Federation Kanazawa Group T&T’s (SKIF KG TT) 13th National Championships which was sponsored by Republic Bank Limited on April 23. The event was held at their Hombu (main) Dojo at La Joya.
Roberts won gold in the brown belt division, for boys’ ages 15 to 17 category, ahead of second-placed Jadon Walcott while Joshua Singh and Brandon Ryan tied for third place at the tournament which featured only kata (forms) and fielded participants of different ranks, from five years to over 40.
Khan’s success came in the 18 and Over category, girls’ white to yellow division. In second spot was Elenor Cumberbatch.
In the six and under group, Zameer Harrypersad excelled to top the boys’ white to yellow division with Michael Sammy in second and in third place was Aryan Rampersad.
The SKIF KG TT reopened their Dojo doors on March 17 and jumped right back into their programme, after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The event was organised by SKIF KG TT executive and technical team with the main intention to help members reconnect.
The Championships is the first of a series
of initiatives the organisation has on its agenda to get back on track with its objectives.
Next on the agenda is the SKIF KG TT national grading and team preparation for SKIF World Championships to be held in Japan 2023.
