T&T’s under-11 boys’ national age-group champion Zayden Sagramsingh added to the Team silver medal won when he earned a bronze medal in the Under-11 Singles in the Caribbean Regional Table Tennis Federation (CRTTF) Mini and Pre-Cadet Championship in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic on Saturday.
Sagramsingh who combined with Tristan Soomarie for Under-11 Boys Team silver earlier in the week received a round-of-16 bye before he defeated Puerto Rico's Carlos Media 3-1 in sets to set up a semifinal clash with another Puerto Rican, Ian Garcia which the latter won 0-3.
Soomarie, meanwhile won his round-of-16 clash with Dominican Republic's Alejandro Lopez before bowing out to Jamaican Malone Bird in the quarterfinals to miss out on a medal.
On Thursday last Sagramsingh topped his Under-11 Boys Group One round-robin series by beating Jamaican Yashme Anderson 11-1, 12-14, 11-4, 11-7 and Dominican Republic's Nicholas Beato 11-1, 11-2, 11-0 while Soomarie was second in Group Four after he went under to Guyana's Aaron Hopkinson 8-11, 11-9, 1-11, 5-11 but beat Dominican Republic's Anthony Reyes 10-12, 11-9, 8-11, 11-8, 11-7.
However, Tristan Sampath did not advance from his Group Three series after losses against Dominican Republic's Raudy Vargas 8-11, 7-11, 4-11 and Puerto Rico's Kennuel Arroyo 11-9, 8-11, 9-11, 11-7, 4-11.
In the Under-13 Singles, the T&T's Elizabeth Rajah was stopped in the Girls round-of-16 while Aaron Noel was also defeated in the last-16, and Daniel Bhim in the quarterfinals of the Boys'.
Rajah was second in her Under-13 Girls Group Four qualifiers after losing against Dominican Republic's Lesly Perez 1-11, 6-11, 9-11 but rebounding to outlast another host player, Eliana Martinez 7-11, 9-11, 11-7, 15-13, 13-11 before she was ousted by Dominican Republic's Dixsany Silverio.
In the Under-13 Boys Noel was defeated by Puerto Rico's Jose Rivera 9-11, 5-11, 10-12 but secured wins over Aruban T-sion Geerman 11-3, 9-11, 11-4, 11-2 and Dominican Republic's Yasminky Sosa 11-6, 11-6, 11-7 for the second spot in Group Three after which he was stopped by Dominican Republic's Eidhrian Paulino while Bhim was overwhelmed by Puerto Rican Owen Shemesh 10-12, 8-11, 11-1 but overcame Jamaican Kyle Johnson 11-7, 11-4, 11-5 and Dominican Republic Angel Dominguez 11-5, 11-8, 11-4 in Group Five followed a win against Angel Melendez in the last-16, before he fell in the quarters to Cuban Yadiel Hernandez..
T&T's Mateo Mollineau fell to Cuban Andy Maqueira 5-11, 7-11, 2-11 and Paulino 4-11, 5-11, 2-11 but won against Jamaican Andrew Anderson 11-3, 16-18, 11-5, 11-8 in Group Two while Jared Simon came up short against Dominican Republic Johan Montas 4-11, 5-11, 1-11; Jamaican Ajani Spencer 4-11, 5-11, 2-11 and Cuban Hernandez 6-11, 2-11, 2-11 in Group Six.
Also yesterday, In the Under-13 Boys Doubles, Bhim and Mollineau won their round-of-16 opener versus Jamaicans Andrew Anderson and Kyle Johnson 11-7, 11-4, 11-5 but were then defeated in the quarterfinals by host duo Yasminky Sosa and Johan Montas 3-11, 5-11, 9-11 while Noel and Simon was stopped in their first match, 2-11, 10-12, 9-11 by Puerto Ricans Owen Shemesh and Jose Rivera.
And in the Under-11 Boys Doubles, the local combination of Sagramsingh and Soomarie were handed a round-of-16 bye only to bow out in the quarterfinals to Puerto Ricans Ryan Rivera and Carlos Medina 11-8, 9-11, 7-11, 11-1 while Sampath and Barbadian Camalli Ifill were ousted by Dominican Republic's Liam Perez and Elian Alvarez 7-11, 3-11, 10-12 in their opening round clash.
