T&T’s netballer Kalifa Mc Collin and her benecos Mavericks missed out on qualification to the semifinal stage of this year’s Vitality Super League Netball after a 47-49 loss to UWS Sirens on Thursday.
Mavericks went into the final round match needing a win to have any hope of qualification and at the end of the first quarter led 14-13.
The second period was just as close with both clubs going goal for goal to go into the half-time 25-24 in favour of Mavericks.
However, the host lifted their game in the third period and outscored the visitors 15-10 to take a 39-35 advantage into the final period.
Mavericks’ behind the efforts of goal shoot, Karyn Bailey and Mc Collin, managed to win the quarter, but their 12-10 margin was not enough as they fell by three goals to end the campaign with four straight defeats and a 10-8 record for 30 points.
Mc Collin who made her league debut last year with Celtic Dragons and was their top scorer with 526 goals from 567 attempts, the sixth best in the competition ended her first season with the Mavericks with 225 goals from 265 attempts at 85 per cent shooting average while Bailey tallied 671 goals from 739 attempts at 91 per cent.
At the top of the table is Wasps Netball with 45 points from a 15-2 record, three ahead of Loughborough Lightning (14-3) and Manchester Thunder (14-3) while Team Bath is the team in the fourth and final playoff semifinal spot with an 11-6 mark and 33 points ahead of their final round-robin matches today and tomorrow.
