The Special Olympics team of T&T (SOTT) will step out at the Special Olympics World Games opening ceremony today in the United Arab Emirates, confident they can return home with some precious metal.
Some have already made a statement in the heats. On Wednesday at the Hamdan Sports Complex, Nicholi Lalla, swimming in his heat in the 50 metres breaststroke, came first with a time of 37.32 seconds.
Trent Bethel also showed his class early in the backstroke event. He came first with a time of 16.85 in the 25m backstroke.
Speaking to Guardian Media Sports from Abu Dhabi, assistant head of delegation Anjaana Downes said, "The T&T team is in high spirits and we have every confidence that we will be returning home with some medals, especially after their performance in the divisioning which has been going on for the past two days."
The opening ceremony starts at 5 pm, Abu Dhabi time on Thursday.
