The T&T Olympic Com­mit­tee's( TTOC) 2020 Olympic Youth Camp will not be a Live-in Camp with work­shops and out­ings to var­i­ous lo­ca­tions, Bri­an Lewis, the Olympic com­mit­tee pres­i­dent said.

It will now be a Vir­tu­al Olympic Youth Camp.

The camp was first es­tab­lished in 2003 but has grown in pop­u­lar­i­ty over the years, now be­ing gross­ly over­sub­scribed every year.

In a re­lease yes­ter­day the lo­cal Olympic boss said with the coro­n­avirus (COVID-19) pan­dem­ic this year, and the pri­ori­ti­sa­tion of safe­ty and health, the TTOC will stage a Vir­tu­al Olympic Youth Camp.

"The tar­get age group for the camp is 11 to 17 years. The TTOC has tak­en what we be­lieve to be the re­spon­si­ble and nec­es­sary de­ci­sion. It's dif­fi­cult but we be­lieve is in the best in­ter­est of the Youth Campers".

The Youth Camp ac­tiv­i­ties got un­der­way on Fri­day, Ju­ly 24 to in­cor­po­rate the one year to go Tokyo 2020 Resched­uled Open­ing Cer­e­mo­ny ac­knowl­edge­ment.

Mean­while, the TTOC med­ical team chaired by TTOC Vice Pres­i­dent Dr Ter­ry Ali and in­clud­ing Dr Rudy Ram­sawak and Dr Nialia Adam's was asked to pre­pare a Re­turn to Field of Play COVID 19 Guide­lines for na­tion­al sport or­gan­i­sa­tions af­fil­i­at­ed to the twin Is­land Re­pub­lic's na­tion­al Olympic com­mit­tee.

Ac­cord­ing to Lewis: "Dr Ali and his team were asked to pre­pare ap­pro­pri­ate guide­lines. The draft guide­lines and rec­om­men­da­tions will be dis­cussed at the TTOC Ex­ec­u­tive Com­mit­tee meet­ing on Mon­day. It is an im­por­tant and ur­gent ini­tia­tive giv­en the COVID19 pan­dem­ic and the chal­lenges and con­se­quences the pan­dem­ic has caused sport, not on­ly lo­cal­ly, but al­so glob­al­ly."
