The United Stars showed why they are one of the teams favoured to win the inaugural National Pool League by destroying Kenny’s Sports Bar 5-nil in the first round of matches on Wednesday night at the boardroom of a Debe bar.
The Stars got off to the perfect start with their captain Ravi Goorah taking the first three frames against Rudy Rampersad. Dilip Deo was next for the Stars and did well to come back from 2-1 down to take his race, three games to two.
The doubles match saw Nazim Mohammed and Stars vice-captain Damien Bisnath coming up against Reynold Samaroo and Randy Deo. Kenny’s Bar players would have been hopeful of securing their first race to keep the series alive after Samaroo and Deo took the first frame but their joy was shortlived as the Mohammed/Bisnath duo won the next three frames.
Shaheed Kondiah and Aaron Raghoonanan both lost their first games but like the pair before them, came back to beat the visiting captain Jesse Gangaram and Coty Brumant 3-1 respectively.
In other games, Jerry’s, playing at Club Liquidz in La Romaine, had a strong showing against the Liquidatorz 4-1.
Pit N Pub of Curepe also made home advantage count by beating Forty Fivers 4-1. Headquarters were also 4-1 winners over Dekko Sports Bar and Upper Deck, playing away from home, got a vital 3-2 win against Foxy’s in Marabella. Matches will resume next Wednesday.
