Kyle Waldron fired in three goals to lead France to a comfortable 8-0 victory over T&T in the final round of preliminary matches in Shaka’s World Cup on Sunday at the Aranquez Savannah, San Juan.
The win saw France finish second in Group A in the eight-team competition with six points from two wins and a loss, behind Argentina, who completed the three rounds of matches unbeaten for full nine points. Both teams move on to Saturday’s semifinals.
France had four other players on target in the commanding win including Darion Marfan, who netted a pair of goals and one each from Andrew Charles, Jervaughn Drakes and Ishmael Lewis.
In the other match played on the day, Brazil and Spain played to a goalless draw in the Under-14 football competition themed “Putting A Dent In Crime” being sponsored by Advance Foam, Church On The Rock, Joe’s One Stop and Tony Shopping Centre.
The draw was enough to help Spain grab the runner’s up spot in Group B and book a place in the semifinals where it will meet the leader of the other group Argentina.
On Saturday, Argentina led by five goals from Darren De Four sealed a crushing 12-1 win over Cameroon. Joining him on the scoresheet were Christian Baptiste with a double while Phillip Tinto, Keisean Spence, Daniel Samaroo, Ayodele John and Kerdel Richards each scored one item.
The other semifinalist is German, who ended the opening round with seven points from two wins and a draw. On the weekend, the winner of Group A defeated Uruguay, 6-0. Jaheem Fox scored a brace for in Germany’s one-sided victory.
This Saturday, the first semifinal match between France and Germany will kick off at 1 pm and later from 1.45 pm, Spain and Argentina will square off.
The final is carded for Sunday from 3.30 pm.
